Earrings on Men (Islam)

Assalmuallykum people,

as you can tell by the title i have been wondering about earrings on men and the ruling in islam, im about 17 and since i was small i wanted to get an earing on my left ear.. i am muslim...

i know and have read that tattoos ARE in fact banned in islam but is there any proof that says in the quran that men aren't allowed to pierce one ear.. i also do realize that this may be imitating the look of a woman but women usually pierce both of there ears and men do only one... next is if you do pierce your ear what if one wears fake silver as the earring..

next question is.. IF i do decide to pierce my ear will there be any risk to the religion (prayers not counted or anything?) and if it is haram HOW bad is it to do this..

thanks to all that answer this, please IF you can provide the surah numbers if you decide to use any quotes.

Praise be to Allaah.

Earrings and bracelets are forms of adornment for women, and Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed men who make themselves look like women and women who make themselves look like men.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 5435).

Abu Hurayrah said: “The Messenger of Allaah cursed men who wear women’s clothes and women who wear men’s clothes.” (Reported by Abu Dawood in al-Sunan, Kitaab al-Libaas, Baab fi libaas al-nisaa’). On this basis, it is not permitted for men to wear earrings or nose-rings.

The claim that this is permissible because the people of Quraysh used to do that needs to be proven, in the first place, and where is the proof?

Secondly, even if they used to do this in the Jaahiliyaah (Time of Ignorance before Islam), Islam came and forbade men to wear the adornment of women or to make themselves look like them, as is clear from the ahadeeth quoted above. What matters is the ruling of Islam, not what Quraysh or other tribes may have done.

Thirdly, the kinds of female adornment known among Quraysh and others includes earrings, bracelets, anklets and bangles worn on the upper arm. The point is that these are known as forms of women’s adornment since ancient times.

Fourthly, Islam has given men sufficient scope to adorn themselves by allowing them to wear silver rings, as Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wore a ring made of silver, and the people did likewise. (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 5417). Islam also allows men to wear gold and silver when necessary to replace a lost tooth or nose, and so on.

Finally, we would say that any Muslim man who wears jewellery is making himself look like the kuffaar, because this is known to be their style of adornment; the latest fashion among them is to wear earrings and the like in their ears, noses, lips, cheeks and other parts of the body (so-called “body-piercing”). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Reported by Abu Dawood, al-Sunan, Kitaab al-libaas, Bab libaas al-shuhrah).

Whoever does this should repent to Allaah and not engage in the futile defence of falsehood. He should be distinct in both his personality and his dress from the kuffaar, as Islam has commanded us to be. Allaah is the One Who guides to the Straight Path.

Re: Earrings on Men (Islam)

What makes me laugh is that some Muslims brothers I come across in the UK seem to think it's haram to wear a real earing but it's okay to wear fake earings simply because you don't need to make a hole in your ear. When it's Eid, I see so many Muslim brothers diamond shaped earing and so on

Re: Earrings on Men (Islam)

I went to a masjid once, where I actually was made to feel like a weirdo for having a simple haircut (same short length all over), and for having a full beard.

In this masjid on eid day, all I saw was boys with the most stupid hairstyles. The worse one was some guy who had short hair, but had leaf patterns cut into the short hair all over the head. It gets better!

He had HALF A BEARD!!! i.e. 1 side was like a pealed potato face, and the otherside was the same length as the hair on his head. It gets EVEN better,

He had the leaf pattern (on his head) continue all the way through his half beard...

I try not to go to that masjid, well dodgy.

Because it's supposedly fashionable....

You see how people now wear baggy clothes and new york caps? Well, Diamond earings or just flashy white earings are the latest supposed cool fashion.

Thats acutaly very true.

Especially the brothers, so many of them plan and talk about doing all these haram things. They don't even know what it symbolizes. Which is why I never go with my friends on Eid.

They act like muslims in the morning, go to prayers and so on and then come 1pm they're Islamic clothes are off and they're away!

Re: Earrings on Men (Islam)

Whether you wear an earing or 2, is imitating the women, as it is generally accepted as womens fashionable item.

Would it look nice standing in from of the Almighty with a hoop in your ear? No.

Rather, keep a smart appearance and smell good is my simple advice.

Asalaam

Lol bless you lil bro ! Trust me bro when i was in my late teens i had my left ear done with a stud.

Since entering Islam whole heartly i took it out and never put it back since. Now i regret feeling my ear lobe and having that sealed hole there. I wish i never had it done in the first place.

Lol cant believe i even wanted to get my eyebrow done too then.

Anyhow I dont reccomend it and neither does Islam.

Peace.

Icon13 Khalas.....

As the fatwah of Shaykh Saleh (Hafidh'allah) shows ear rings for males would clearly be prohibited as it would fall under imitation of females and imitation of disbelievers (kuffar males).

Also it's a homo look for many.
